I don't usually buy cookbooks, but this is not just a cookbook. You also read enchanting stories of the author's 6 (hope I got that correctly)generations on this land, complete menus for each month, wonderful drink and cooking recipes (yummy, and a recipe for strawberry jam which I haven't seen before and am going to try, and pickled vegetables), and she also gives some great information on curing different cuts of meat! To me, this was a real find and the reason I initially purchased the book. What a nice surprise to find out it had so much more I would like.
I can't wait for the next book, and can only hope it has more recipes for curing - like ham and bacon, proscuitto and sopresetta. I will be using this cookbook for years to come.
